The city of…music
Leeds is known for its legendary live music scene, where you can watch local bands or global acts at venues ranging from the First Direct Arena to the world-famous Brudenell Social Club.
One of the biggest parts of the city’s music scene is festival season. Leeds hosts a variety of music festivals, catering for every genre. Live at Leeds showcases the world’s best up-and-coming artists, while Leeds Festival, the city’s largest and most famous festival, attracts some of the biggest names in music every year.
The city of...sport
Sport is part of the fabric of Leeds, with the city producing some of the UK’s most iconic teams, famous athletes, and world-class facilities.
Headingley Stadium, located just down the road from campus, plays host to Rugby League heroes Leeds Rhinos. The city is also home to the Mighty Whites – Leeds United Football Club.
If you prefer to get involved rather than spectate, you’ll find plenty of premier facilities across the city, including the John Charles Centre for Sport and Planet Ice – Leeds’ ice rink.
Shopping
Shopaholics, welcome to paradise. Whether you love vintage, want to search for bargains at Europe’s largest indoor market, or prefer the high street havens of Trinity Leeds and Victoria Gate, Leeds has something for every taste and budget.
Food
Leeds is a city of foodies. From long-standing independents like The Brunswick and Thai Aroy Dee to classic staples, you’ll be able to experience delicious food from every corner of the globe. Prefer the street food experience? Then Leeds Market or Trinity Kitchen should be first on your list.
Nightlife
Looking for something to do with your friends? Enjoy a luxury cinema experience with a trip to Everyman, or visit Flight Club or Roxy Ballroom for a night of games including darts, shuffleboard and mini golf.
In Leeds you’ll find some of the best nightlife in the North. Call Lane and Merrion Street are two of the city’s most popular locations, with plenty of bars to pick from, while Lower Briggate is the destination for LGBTQ+ nights out in Leeds.
Leeds has been awarded Purple Flag status for five consecutive years in recognition of the work that has taken place to ensure the city offers a diverse, safe and exciting night out.
Culture
Each year, Leeds plays host to a packed calendar of incredible events and festivals including the Leeds International Film Festival, Leeds West Indian Carnival and Light Night Leeds.
You can also learn about everything from the industrial revolution and Ancient Egypt to modern and contemporary art in the city’s many museums and galleries.
